For many who are new cat owners, when the female cat they have first goes into heat, they begin to worry. This is because cats in heat have behavior that is similar to cats that are in pain or sick. Many owners start to think that their cat has an illness, when they are just in heat. Would you be surprised to learn that your female cat is going to be in heat for most of her life? That is, until you have her spayed.

A cat naturally sexually matures by the time they are five months old. From then on, the cat is going to go into heat for the rest of her life. Unless she is old, spayed or has an illness. The only time your cat will not go into heat is when she is already pregnant. If you have a cat and have been through the situation, then you are going to find that she will stay in heat until she has done the deed.

Once she gets to mate, ovulation will start to take place. There will be one egg per kitten. After that, we are sure you know what happens - pregnancy. Pregnancy will last anywhere from fifty six to sixty three days.

Cats have a tendency to go into heat more during those warmer months. Between February through September, your cat will more than likely show those symptoms. However, if you live in an area where there are no seasonal cycles, then your cat could have this problem throughout the entire year.

So, what are some signs that the female is in heat? When they start to go through this phase, you are going to see a change in the way they act. You will find her walking around the room, rolling around and meowing a lot more than she usually does. She will be meowing in a tone that you have never heard before. You may also see that she does not have that big of an appetite. She could also act as if she is in pain.

Some cats have a tendency to be extremely friendly when they are going through this. They will roll around on the ground as if they have lost their marbles. They will constantly want to be petted and rubbed on. When you reach down and rub your cat on her back, she is going to raise those hindquarters.

Are you keeping the cat as a pet? If you are, then you may want to consider getting her spayed. This is the one thing you can do to keep her out of heat. There are a number of reasons to do this. For instance, are you able to afford to care for new kittens every couple of months?

Are you able to find every single one of those kittens a good, reliable home? If not, will you be able to care for them yourself? There are so many kittens that are euthanized by organizations simply because cat owners were not able to find them homes or care for them. They did not know what to do when their cat was in heat.
